Review of various methods of noise measurement; sources of aerodynamic noise are considered in three groups -- broad-band noise and its mechanisms, namely, pure aerodynamic noise, noise induced by turbulence and induced by vortex shedding; ordered noise consisting of pressure signature noise, wake interaction and field interaction noise; modulation and distortion effects, and its three propagation effects; main engine noise and noise of lifting rotor; results obtained in flight experiment where experimental rotor was run in forward flight; method of analysis; equation is given that provides necessary data for first design study of large helicopter noise.
