British Railways research of single-wire current collection at speeds up to 150 mph; possibilities of single-wire overhead contact system with no catenary support are investigated; preliminary track tests on trolley wire, supplemented by computer calculations, suggest that it could be used also on fast main lines, with consequent reduction in cost of electrification.
