The real-time system lab at Monmouth University (MU) deploys two identical experimental railroad systems as an engineering environment - a real-time demonstration target - whose components are controlled by the real-time application software running on a single board computer. This paper introduces the on-going effort at MU on the design and development of real-time railroad control simulation system as a virtual lab for both instructors and students in real-time system classes. This virtual lab will allow students to test their projects anytime anywhere.
