Pedestrian safety has attracted wide attention in recent years due to pedestrians’ vulnerability to injury. At unsignalized crosswalks, the possibility of pedestrian-vehicle conflict is even higher than in other places. To evaluate the risk that a pedestrian faces when he/she is crossing a street, the paper proposes a microscopic risk ratio model to mimic the probability of pedestrian-vehicle collision. Data were collected by video recorder at an unsignalized crosswalk at Weigongcun road in Beijing. Based on the survey data and the calculation results, it is proved that the model can discriminate the most dangerous circumstances and the safest opportunities for pedestrians to decide whether to cross the street or not. The dangerous speed of vehicles can also be calculated using the model.
