Modification of Full Asphalt Content AC Designing Method

Some key problems of Full Asphalt Content AC (FAC) designing method and improvement measures were undertaken. First, reasons of difference between actual and goal were analyzed by inferring mixtures volume balance equation. Second, introducing Vbe to volume balance equation made VMA in control. Finally, testing result proved that improved method is a correct one for FAC designing. The results indicate that properties of FAC designed by improved method satisfy technical specifications for construction of highway asphalt pavement. Consequently, this method is recommendable to design FAC, SMA and other close-discontinuous gradation asphalt mixtures.
