This chapter provides an introduction to space weather effects on GNSS. These effects, which can at times be significant, are introduced to the signal as it propagates through the atmosphere and include: significant range errors due to large gradients in the ionospheric total electron content; loss of lock and signal degradation due to presence of small scale density fluctuations or irregularities; and loss of lock of the signal due to the increase in background L‐band radiation during certain solar radio bursts. The significant space weather effects observed in each of the different ionospheric regions (low, mid, and high‐latitudes) are identified. GNSS techniques and methodologies to monitor these effects are described. Finally, the significance of space weather effects in various GNSS applications including aviation, marine, emergency response, and autonomous vehicle control will be discussed.
