Particle analysis is one of the most commonly used machine vision techniques. It refers to a set of image analysis functions that operate on binary images, that is, those images that have only two values of a pixel: 1 and 0. Most acquired images from cameras are either color or grayscale images. Therefore, an image conversion process is needed. This chapter discusses the conversion methods in detail. The use of Vision Assistant, which is a tool for prototyping, testing, and perhaps providing an accelerated start to creating image processing applications, is briefly discussed. The chapter also discusses the image type modification method. VI modification techniques are used with the Vision Assistant‐created VI to enhance the real‐time image acquisition and analysis. Finally, the use of Vision Express VIs is discussed to help readers quickly develop common processing applications.
