Adjusting the flight schedule requires deciding which flights to eliminate from the schedule. To solve this problem, the schedule adjustment formulation presented in this context is used for the schedule adjustment problem. To investigate the feasibility of adding new flights to the schedule, this chapter discusses a methodology similar to the flight deletion methodology. The solution methodology consists of two main steps. All newly proposed flights are first included in the schedule (initial set). Then, the flight deletion methodology is applied to check whether these proposed flights should be kept or eliminated from the schedule. As part of the schedule adjustment process, an airline might consider modifying the departure time of one or more of its existing flights. For any flight in the schedule, several departure time options might be suggested, and only one of them is selected.
