Rigorous analytical techniques can be used to ensure that safety devices are properly specified and sized. Using advanced dynamic simulation software, quantitative analyses can determine consequences from potential tube failures. In this case history, the design for a new heat exchanger is examined under the critical service conditions. Results are discussed based on hydraulic transient analyses.
