There has been a lag in applying computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the analysis of automobile air-conditioning because of the difficulty in calculations caused, for example, by complex vehicle cabin shapes and because the amount of work involved in trials is less than that involved in calculations. However, the improvement in CFD analysis technologies, such as geometric modelling and calculation program functions, has meant that there has been a rapid increase in the application of CFD analysis. CFD analysis is being used in attempts to reduce calculation costs and automobile development times, and to improve cabin comfort. This paper introduces the latest research trends and their background.
