An integrated analysis of the total hull and tank configuration of a spherical tank LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) vessel of Moss-Rosenberg type is presented. The paper gives an outline of the latest development in computer based design analysis in DNV (Det Norske Veritas), from hydrodynamic analysis through structural analysis to acceptance criteria. The intention of the analysis was to provide a comprehensive documentation of the structural design of the actual vessel. This means that extended structural analysis were used to put additional steel where it was most needed, and to improve the local fatigue design of selected structural details. New acceptance criteria for the structural strength of the spheres and cylinders of the containment system were used and are discussed in the paper.
