Correct choice and coordination of steering and suspension systems parameters is a very significant problem which must be already solved in a phase of designing of heave vehicles. In choosing the steering system parameters the tendency is toward the minimization of kinematic errors that appear during turning. For these purposes, a nonlinear dynamic model of heavy vehicle is developed and modeling of kinematics of steered wheels and their shimmy during the straight-line drive is done. Bearing in mind that the expressions describing the influence of elasticity of the heavy vehicle springs on the occurance of the shimmy are very complex, it has been found suitable in this paper to neglect the inflences of the steering system elasticity, clearances and forces on previously mentioned occurance. For that developed procedures exist that take into account also the influence the kinematic of the suspension system on kinematic parameters of vehicle turning. Besides that, maintenance tests have shown that increased deflections of the suspension system lead to increased wear of tires of steered wheels. In this paper, a method is developed for minimization of steered wheel shimmy and its wear also during the straight-line drive of heavy vehicles. The procedure can also be used in the phase of designing the heavy vehicles.
