ESA PSS handbooks: The source of information for space structure engineering

This paper provides an overview of the contents of each of the technical handbooks published by ESA, under the control of ESTEC YME. They cover subjects of interest for the successful engineering of space structures. They aimed at providing engineers with comprehensive guidelines, reference information and awareness of important developments. By the 'sharing' of informatin gathered from the ESA projects and studies conducted elsewhere, it is intended that they act as an important knowledge -base for those embarking on new projects. Each handbook contains large amounts of valuable information. To ensure their usefulness in new projects, each handbook is subject to a programme of regular updating refelecting developments in technology and the possible impact on new requirements for structures. The more recently revised handbooks have been specifically designed, by RJ Technical Consultants, to allow information of interest to be found easily within a large volume, with indexing and extensive cross-referencing to other related subjects. Many of the books contain case studies to demonstrate how the technology described is applied in the development of real space structures.
