This paper deals with two themes, one of which is about the dynamic characteristics of the cam shaft driving gear system, and the other about the engine balancing. They are among the problems experienced and studied in the course of the development of the MITSUBISHI UE ENGINE. As to the dynamic characteristics of the cam shaft driving gear system, actual measurements have been made with the use of the UE DIESEL ENGINE, and analysis was also made of the dynamic characteristics by means of the digital computer. As to the engine balancing, studies were made of the effect of the diesel engine on the ship's hull vibration on the assumption that the engine is an elastic body and a comparison was made between the studies and the measurement results of the actual hull vibration. Lastly, a view is given about the engine balancing in consideration of the effect on the hull vibration.
