The availability of powerful Personal Computers and distributed data acqiusition front-ends now makes it possible to monitor cost-effectively all rotating machinery needed to operate a gas pipeline. The system presented here is modular and hierarchical. Distributed processing and exception reporting are the key concepts to process and transmit the information from the sensors to the local PC and Area maintenance levels. Displays and analysis tools for the data acquired in steady state, or during machine runups or rundowns, are presented.
