Electronic equipment fitted in naval vessels is extremely vulnerable to the effects of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). The authors discuss briefly the theory of the generation of EMP, ship platform hardening techniques, conducting a ship EMP audit prior to an EMP trial, conducting an EMP ship trial, results obtained and concluding with the making of recommendations on how improvements can be made to the ship platform hardening.
