Motorway driving may well be safer than driving on ordinary roads, but the driver can sometimes feel isolated. The Alcatel emergency telephone network with its familiar orange roadside call boxes is a specific contribution to road safety and eliminates the feeling of isolation by reassuring road users that help and assistance are always available. The network also enables road and motorway operating authorities to monitor traffic at key points.
