The electric vehicle industry requires three-phase inverters in the 50 kW to 100 kW power range with output currents of 300 Arms to 400 Arms per phase. The driving force behind improved inverters is lower cost. An inverter with lower power dissipation and a minimal increase in parts count would result in more condensed packaging and, therefore, lower cost. In this paper, three soft-switching inverters are analyzed and compared to the hard-switched voltage source inverter for possible use in the electric vehicle industry.
