The effect of the inflation pressure on the force and moment characteristics of a high-performance tyre set was analysed experimentally, and the data were used to investigate numerically the stability of a racing motorcycle. Experimental measurements showed that increasing the inflation pressure of the tyre increased both the radial structural stiffness of the tyre and the lateral structural stiffness of the tyre as well as the side-slip stiffness of the tyre, while the camber stiffness of the tyre, the self-aligning stiffness magnitude of the tyre and the twisting stiffness of the tyre decreased. Numerical results for the racing motorcycle considered showed that an increase in the inflation pressure of the rear tyre improves the wobble stability across the whole speed range considered and improves the weave stability, but this effect decreases as the speed increases. An increase in the inflation pressure of the front tyre is beneficial for low- to medium-speed wobble and high-speed weave but is detrimental to wobble mode damping at high speeds.
