Efficient electrical drive, both pure electrical or hybrid plug-in, will provide to commercial vehicles an essential factor for the business success. Technical solution for further fuel consumption and pollution reduction to make commercial vehicle cleaner and economically acceptable for the customers has been developed. Magneti Marelli (MM) in the first decade of years two thousands developed thermic engine management strategies for fuel consumption reduction (- 20%) by using maps and a navigation engine to provide predictive information on the route. Today MM is engaged in developing new solutions which: by means of a probabilistic approach to forecast the route do not need the support of a navigation engine, improve the powertrain management for fuel consumption reduction with reference to the real dynamic scenario around the vehicle (Dynamic Electronic Horizon) by means of sensors (camera,...), communication (V2x) and Data Fusion & data Combination technics. The same concepts & solutions are now applied in cooperation with IVECO to manage the power systems of hybrid Light Duty Vehicles for the city logistic. More, an optimization of the selection of "greener" route and an optimal management of thermal and electrical traction is performed. Iveco as coordinator and MM are key partners of the PIE_VERDE project (Research & Innovation project funded by the Automotive Platform of the Piemonte Region) dedicated to the development of electric and hybrid commercial vehicle equipped with telematics supporting system which help in reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emission.
