Based on the heuristic nonlinear creep model, this investigation derives the nonlinear coupled differential equations of the motion of a 24 degrees-of-freedom car system that moves on curved tracks. To analyse the effects of the major system parameters on the vehicle dynamics, the 24-DOF system is reduced to a 14-DOF model. Generally, analytical results reveal that the critical hunting speed derived using the 14-DOF model normally exceeds that evaluated using the 24-DOF model. Finally, the desired regions of suspension parameters in which critical hunting speeds exceed 300 km/h obtained using the 14-DOF and 24 DOF models are presented.
