An experiment was conducted about the effect of spectral power distribution of light sources on discomfort glare on a 0.1 cd/m2 mesopic adaptation background and a quasi-monochromatic optical channel providing the glare sources. The spectral behavior of discomfort glare sensitivity was investigated. The observation geometry with a 0.3° glare source at 4.3° off the visual axis corresponds to the application of automotive headlamps. Spectral discomfort glare sensitivity was obtained from 6 subjects. Sensitivity curves were interpreted by a combination of retinal mechanisms, V(λ), V'(λ), S(λ) and a chromatic mechanism, |L(λ)-M(λ)|. The contribution of S(λ), V'(λ) and |L(λ)-M(λ)| could not be neglected. The inter-observer and intra-observer variability of spectral sensitivity is significant.
