Numerical simulation of the magnitude and distribution of the leakage current density by finite element analysis (FEM) was used to analyze internal corrosion failure induced by current leakage for cathode protection insulating joint. Effects of the potential difference on both sides of insulating joint, transmission medium resistivity and inner coat defects of insulating joint on the magnitude and distribution of the leakage current density were discussed. The FEM results agreed well with the insulating joint corrosion phenomena in the oilfield working place.
