In tractor-trailers and busses even a brief loss of control by the operator can lead to devastating consequences such as roll-overs or jackknifing. Through controlled braking interventions, ESC contributes to clearly higher steering stability and directional stability and thus helps to compensate for driving mistakes such as excessive speed or wrong steering inputs during cornering. Networking ESC with other chassis and driver assistance functions like emergency braking systems (EBS), ESP of Commercial Vehicles with Traffic Control, comprehensive constellations combining traffic situations and driving maneuvers can be reconstructed. The impending mandatory fitting of heavy commercial vehicles with electronic stability control and other advanced driver assistance systems in the European Union will result in a dramatic increase in development, testing and certification requirements. Highly capable simulation tools like IPG TruckMaker have been specifically designed to handle the enormous complexity of truck simulation to complement conventional realworld tests.
