The intention of this paper is to show the capability and validity of a modern chassis controls HiL-simulation environment as it is used at GM Europe Engineering in closed-loop driving maneuver applications like 18m Slalom or VDA Double Lane Change. Using an integrated tool chain starting with classical MBS-simulation which is later on transferred into the IPG Carmaker HiL environment provides excellent model quality in terms of nonlinear vehicle dynamics incl. stability controls. Applying the IPGDriver for closed-loop driving maneuvers leads to outstanding results, which are very close to real world driving tests. The exact hit of an entrance speed of 70 kph in the VDA test and only 1 kph deviation in the average speed of the 18m Slalom (62 kph) shows the extraordinary quality of the described simulation environment. This offers the possibility to predict results of automotive journal tests up to a certain degree of reliability by comparing the simulation results with previously published journal measurements and the respective ratings.
