An integrated chassis control (ICC) system is introduced in this paper by the integration of the active front steering and brake systems based on the fine regulation method of the hydraulic brake pressure. A novel and effective brake controller has been designed to work without pressure feedback. The design is based on theoretical analysis and experimental research on hydraulic brake system while pulse width modulation is used in the pressurization process and the pulse frequency modulation is used to allow the pressure to drop. The ICC controller is designed by using the multivariable frequency domain control theory: it gets compensation in both high-frequency band and low-frequency band. A single lane change test was simulated on a co-simulation platform with both MATLAB and AMESim software. Results show that the controller can effectively regulate the brake force and improve the maneuverability and stability of vehicles dramatically.
