The following paper gives an introduction to the manufacture and properties of reinforced structural foam cores. These combine a number of advantages in comparison to unreinforced foams, including better mechanical properties and a better peel and impact resistance. The core can be reinforced locally or globally, and the number, angle and direction of the reinforcement pins can be fitted to the expected operational loads. Besides the excellent and adjustable mechanical properties reinforced ROHACELL TAYROH foam cores offer very robust processing and handling properties which set the apart from honeycomb materials. The very good mechanical properties make this type of material ideally suited for demanding applications like aircraft or helicopter construction.
