The period of time a RoRo-vessel spends in the harbour for loading and discharging processes is an important aspect of its cost effectiveness. This fact is one of the vertices in the design of these vessels, which creates a demand for a tool to evaluate a ship design according to logistics. This paper explains why simulation was chosen as the method of evaluation and why the creation of a simulation-toolkit was selected to speed up the modelling of alternative scenarios. The general concept of the simulation tool STS-ShipLog is described along with samples of different RoRo-vessel designs. The results of these simulation projects show that a lot of money in investment and fuel costs can be saved when choosing the right ship design.
