The return current and the signalling current are all transported along with the railway. The harmonics of the return current may interfere with the signalling current. Some references use experimental study to investigate the index of the compatibility between the return current and signalling current. But the theoretical investigation is more preferable. In this paper, we use switching function concept to calculate the return current, aiming at contributing future work to improve the compatibility with the signalling current. The proposed method has been verified through the simulation and experiment results.
