One of the basic methods for estimating the technical conditions of operation of marine gas turbines is the oil analysis used formerly in aircraft engine diagnosis to avoid damage of the bearings. The method was now applied for diagnosis of marine gas turbines. The method is based on X-ray radioisotope fluorescence determination of mechanical impurities in oil. The contents of iron and copper in the oil were determined as a function of turbine operation time. The analytical data were used for the diagnosis of the bearings of marine gas turbines to control the wear of engine parts lubricated with oil. The method developed as compared with conventional methods allowed to carry out the diagnosis without withdrawing the ships from exploitation and without disassembling the engines.
