To fulfil the future needs of satellite-propulsion customers, EADS-Astrium is developing an all European, high performance, propulsion system, known as the European Apogee Motor (EAM). The EAM is a bi-propellant engine for use in the Chemical Propulsion System (CPS) of a large satellite platform as well as in existing propulsion systems. Based on Astrium ceramic matrix composite technologies, the European Apogee Motor features an all-in-one combustion chamber and nozzle, enabling a simpler, lighter weight, higher performing engine which is additionally based on the development of an optimised micro showerhead injector system to achieve the required high performance. The EAM is being developed with the objective of having the best world-wide performance in its class in terms of ISP and thrust.
