Ausländischen Automobilherstellern, allen voran Toyota, ist es gelungen, durch eine umsichtige strategische Ausrichtung eine Position der Stärke aufzubauen. Die Wettbewerbssituation der deutschen Automobilindusfrie ist hingegen suboptimal. Die Ursache hierfür ist in einer mangelhaften strategischen Unternehmensführung begründet, in der die Möglichkeiten des strategischen Controllings nur unzureichend genutzt wurden.

The efficiency of a certain activity should be measured according to the achieved results and it is important to keep thereby the main target in mind. The objective of the strategic controlling is the sustainable securing of the company's existence as well as to tip its full potential for success. In the German automotive industry there are companies with huge potentials for success, VW, Daimler, BMW, which operate economically with only a small part of it. In the past the German automotive industry was not really successful in strategic controlling.
