Abstract

The production of API steel grades for exploration and transport of gas and oil has deserved special notability in the national and international markets, mainly due to Petrobras' Strategical Plan which aims an increase on the consumption and distribution of gas and petroleum in Brazil. Besides, it has been observed a significantly increase on the consumption of this products all over the world. In this sense, CST - Arcelor Brasil is developing and complying the market demands of API steel grades as slabs and hot coils as well. Just to confirm CST's commitment on this process, the API steel products mix at CST has reached, in 2006, around 9 % of the total production. As challenges for 2007, it's possible to mention the production of the grades API X80 for line pipe application and medium carbon with boron addition for casing and tubing application (thermal treatment required), both directed to the hot coils market.
