The APIX (Advanced Pixel Link) long-distance link is a digital bitserial high-speed, DC-balanced, low latency and low EMI interconnect directly adapting dispatched displays or cameras to central video/imaging processors through two wires only. The integrated bidirectional sideband channel offers 18 Mbit/s capability and e.g. allows for 12C-compatible operation controlling CMOS camera sensors, display settings or Human-Machine-Interfacing through RS232 a.o. Selectable 0.5 Gbit/s or 1 Gbit/s operation, adjustable driver characteristics of the CML-IOs (Current Mode Logic) and an integrated Spread-Spectrum-Clocking results in lowest EMI at maximum transmission distances. Thus significantly reducing the link's system costs and increasing the system functionality compared to simple Serializer/De-Serializer chip sets. Compared to traditional serial-parallel LVDS-links, Inova Semiconductors' APIX link significantly reduces the number of cable pairs and additionally offers better EMI at higher bandwidth. The integrated return channel adds system functionality features to the pure bitserial link and so creates innovative and value-added driver assistance systems at lower cost. Regarding automotive applications the APIX chipset replaces fiber-based links with shielded twisted pair copper cables (STP).
