Today's automotive radar sensors are well capable to measure speed and distance of objects. They are also able to measure the angles of objects very accurately as long as there is only one object present within one range/ velocity resolution cell. 'The problems of how to detect the presence of multiple targets in the same range-Doppler-angle angle cell, and how to discriminate from the single target condition are not treated extensively in the literature. In the case of multiple targets within one range/ velocity resolution cell the angular measurement might be strongly distorted. The challenge is the development of radar sensors that determine how trustworthy the angle measurement is. Current research activities in the automotive industry focus on the improvement of the perception capabilities of radar sensors. A radar sensor with four receive antennae and its LFMSK (Linear Frequency Modulated Shift Keying) transmit signal are introduced. In this paper a new method for the detection and analysis of multiple reflection points within one range/ velocity resolution cell is introduced.
