To develop the most advanced, cost effective and reliable products for the market, it is essential during the design phase to understand the influence of aging to the material and function. On seatbelts the stress by dust results not only driving through a desert, even by everyday use particles will stress the system. Several different test specifications are demanded of the market. Caused by this an investigation on the influence of the different dust tests was conducted. The study was conducted on the two most demanded tests to ECE R 16 silicon dust and the 'Arizona dust', specified by the Society of Automotive Engineers SAE J 726 and is requested by the FMVSS 209. Part of the study investigated, influences of test parameters, test duration or chamber supplier. This presentation should give a brief summary of the investigation and the interpretation of them.
