High performance radar systems are today a promising candidate for modern automotive security and comfort applications, due to their increased immunity to adverse weather and working conditions. The paper presents the experiences and the results obtained by operating a neardistance network of four high range resolution (HRR) radar sensors in the 24GHz band mounted on an experimental vehicle. The monostatic sensors are unsynchronised and provide only target range information, which must be post-processed in order to obtain the accurate two-dimensional target position and velocity. Two different algorithms for the signal processing are presented and compared in this paper using real traffic scenario data.
