A suspension system was developed for flywheel energy storage, that is, a FWB (Fly-Wheel Battery) on electrical or HEV (Hybrid Electrical Vehicles). If the FWB is operated on vehicles, the gyrodynamics increases the loads of the rotor support bearing and the occupied space of the FWB. In order to eliminate the influence of the gyrodynamics, a suspension system composed of a gimbal, actuators and a gain-scheduling controller is presented. The simulation and the experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed system.
