The safety of drivers and passengers has become a great concern to the automotive industry. Great importance is attached to passive safety systems. The demands placed on textile components grow constantly. High-tenacity synthetic yarns are used in constructions specifically geared to the end use. The development of such articles requires close co-operation with customers and suppliers. At the same time, serial production itself, with the required quality standards, tests and data documentation, places special demands on textile producers. Depending on the position of the airbag, its function relies on a wide range of properties and capabilities. In comprehensive crash tests, each newly developed product is tested for its suitability for use and then released for production. The equipment of vehicles with airbag systems keeps increasing, placing new demands on the airbags. In this, results from accident analyses by car producers and manufacturers of safety systems, in combination with the technical potential of the safety systems, play an essential role. Quality assurance agreements (QAA) exist with both the customer and the suppliers. Such quality assurance agreements are made in order to ensure compliance with a defined quality level and the performance of bought products. These QAA are founded on the pillars of ensuring a functioning QM system, and assuring quality before and during serial production. This includes above all quality planning, initial sampling, target agreements, purchasing criteria, process suitability, treatment of faulty products and the necessary documentation, delivery certificates, dispatch and labelling as well as dealing with complaints. Furthermore, factors such as treatment for the assessment of quality capability of suppliers, the use of inspection and measuring tools, as well as supplementary material such as product specifications could be included in the QAA.
