Many properties of 18,650 cylindrical size cells with Mn-spinel cathode were studied for power application. Anode active materials were graphite or amorphous carbon. The cell with improved Mn-spinel and amorphous carbon shows high specific power (1,230 W/kg at DOD (Depth of Discharge) 50 %) and high specific recharge power (840 W/kg at DOD 50 %) at 20 deg C, and can be operated even at -30 deg C. The specific power and specific recharge power at 45 deg C are more than 30 % higher compared to the value at 20 deg C. A good cycle performance at 60 deg C after 500 cycle (recover ratio of discharge capacity is 85 %, at CC (Constant Current) charge) was also obtained. This new cell is promising for hybrid electric vehicles.
