The procter a. Gamble company has developed an ultrasonic procedure for inspecting the wheels on company aircraft. the new procedure requires 10 to 15 min and can be conducted while the wheels are on the plane. Cracks as small as 0.015 in. (0.38 mm) deep and 0.250 in. (6.35 mm) long can be detected. This is the only method that has found a crack before complete failure.
