Methods of detecting defects in aircraft and aerospace sandwich structures by use of holographic interferometry are discussed. Three forms of holographic interferometry - real time, double exposure and time average - comprise powerful means of detecting and interpreting structural defects. These techniques are entirely nondestructive and capable of allowing quantitative and qualitative observation of subsurface defects.
