Research and development program for power turbine of the 2-shaft regenerative vehicular gas turbine was conducted. The program consisted of an optimization study and aerodynamic tests. In the optimization study, aerodynamic characteristics of the power turbine are summerized and are related to turbine design. Aerodynamic tests consisted of cold-air turbine tests and component tests. In these tests, effects of aerodynamic penalties on turbine efficiency, which are encountered in small axial turbines, were investigated experimentally. The maximum total-to-total efficiency was about 90 % by adopting a flow pattern intended to reduce secondary flow losses.
