Our company is developing a new microprocessor based multichannel data acquisition system for vehicle performance tests on the road. The system has full automatic signal conditioners and amplifiers and a computer controlled display. This display serves the driver in supplying basic data for test completion, i.e. baseline parameters for single 'runs' and in addition to this, driving procedure information for tests with a specific driving cycle. The same display shows immediately after test the results including a 'goodness' indication. This paper describes how a full specification of such a system was achieved and what the result was.
