Diesel locomotives, largely used in rail transportation of freight and passengers, are motor vehicles characterized by a high degree of complexity. This paper presents aspects of the system and structure analysis of the complex spatial mechanisms making up the hydraulic-diesel locomotive. It points out the necessary progressive-modulating manner of considering an exhaustive constructive system from the structural point of view. Elements of parallel constructive-functional analysis are also shown, revealing significant design particularities. The results of the system and structure analyses are essential for working out and developing the necessary kinematic, kinetostatic and dynamic studies of mechanisms, aiming at facilitating technological and constructive development.
