The control of chopper tractive systems seems to be one of the last fields resisting the generalized use of microprocessors mostly for reasons of difficult environmental conditions, processing capacity and economy. However, an example in which the entire control procedure is processed by a single microprocessor, to the exclusion of any other processing chain save for the one which ensures the ultimate safety in operation is described. In the light of technical progress, and the results of this experiment, the early wide-spread microprocessor utilization in the traction field and in transportation equipment is predicted.
