An ongoing research programme at the Admiralty Research Establishment, Portsdown is investigating the potential of Artificial Intelligence (Al) techniques to provide automated support to naval command and control. The objective is to develop intelligent systems capable of giving tactical advice to the command team of a naval ship or task force. This advice will take the form of assistance with the real-time tasks of sensor data interpretation, picture complication, situation assessment and resource allocation.
