Two groups of 11-cells each of 26.5 ampere-hour (Ah) aerospace-design nickel-cadmium cells as used in several low-earth-orbit satellite applications have completed beginning-of-life characterization testing and are now on life test at RCA Astro-Electronics. The purpose of this test program is to determine the effect on cell behavior, if any, of a separator change made by the manufacturer, General Electric Battery Business Department (GE), in all of their aerospace nickel-cadmium cells. Preliminary test results, presented in this paper, show no effects of the separator change, a comoared to the 'control' cells, on early-life cell performance. However, end of charge voltages are higher independent of separator, than they were for early lots of GE cells.
