Although electropolishing and chempolishing create a relatively contamination-free surface on the inside of 316L stainless steel tubes, data is presented that concludes that a chempolished surface is superior to an electropolished surface. In gas distribution systems, chempolishing can be performed after the tubes are bent to final shape and welded. This is an advantage since a large amount of particulate contamination is generated during the tube bending process.
