The electronic warfare during Close Air Support (EWCA) joint Test recently conducted by the Services is one of the largest data instrumented operational testing exercises ever conducted. One major data source for this test is the Modular Instrumentation Package System (MIPS). The MIPS is an automatic data collection system installed in the major threat simulators. As with most special purpose data instrumentation systems, the MIPS could produce unreliable under certain field conditions. A quality control methodology was developed for the EWCAS test to detect and eliminate, correct, or identify the unreliable data generated by the MIPS. This paper will describe the MIPS and the quality control procedure that was developed to ensure that only high quality MIPS data were obtained for the EWCAS operational test.
